There were 12 crews of Cornwall Council staff members, made up of 72 novice or near novice rowers that took part.  Over the afternoon short sprint races were held in the clubs 3 gigs: Messack, Royal and Lady Loe. The winning crew for the second year was a team from 16 Plus (They are becoming the crew to beat).

On the day the weather was kind to us and stayed clear to make our third Annual Charity Gig Rowing Challenge event a real success.  With registration fees, a raffle and BBQ on the day an amazing grand total of £605 was raised for Little Harbour Children’s Hospice.

It is always a really happy event raising money for a worthy cause and introducing new rowers to the wonderful sport of gig rowing.

A big thank you to everyone who took part and came along to help on the day.

In total we took 3 ladies crews, 2 mens, 2 ladies vets and 1 supervets crew over to Scilly – as we only had 2 men’s crews for the main races we were able to loan our gig Messack to a local gig club; Helford River Gig Rowing Club, I’m very happy to report they did splendidly too!

So far our gig Royal has returned from the Scillies we are awaiting the return of Messack and Spurr towards the end of May via the Scillonian.
